- The Explorer is now fixed, we're going to pick it up tomorrow morning.
- Also tomorrow morning, my Charles has to go to the DMV to take his written driver's test to renew his license. Technically, it expired yesterday but since they only do Saturdays once a month and we're procrastinators, it had to wait until tomorrow. Hopefully he doesn't have to do the behind-the-wheel too since it's expired for two days. =P
- I've done some more edits to my website, actually putting in more content, but more coming later.
- I've packed the stuff that we won't use between now and next Thursday: one box of bathroom stuff, one box of kitchen stuff, one box of movies, and one of books (there's more books and kitchen stuff coming, they take lots of room). Almost everything else is clothes, electronics, furniture, or already stored in a box.

Moving update
Charles went down to sign paperwork for the apartment "to take it off the market." I'm not sure if that means it's the lease or not, it actually didn't occur to me to ask. Anyhow, we're most likely going to be moving in the vicinity of Thursday of next week.

Moving soon
I've started packing for our move to North Hollywood. I've done some kitchen stuff and our movie collection. Charles says that he wants to pack his things himself. My clothes will mostly be taken out on their hangers, my craft things will go in their current boxes (just have to duct tape them shut), other things that need to be packed include the bookcase, pantry stuff, a little more kitchen stuff, and our electronic stuff. That's going to move last, though, I figure. I hope to do as much moving in the car(s) as possible.
Items that were delivered here:
Washer, dryer, and fridge were delivered professionally, and our easy chair was brought by a friend in his van
Items we brought in my mom's Tahoe:
Mattress, nightstands (I think one at a time fits in the Explorer)
Items we brought in our Explorer:
Kitchen table base, kitchen chairs, I THINK kitchen table glass (that could have been the Tahoe, I forget)
Items that were in a box when they arrived:
Bookcase, desk
We're most likely going to rent a truck, although a pick up truck rental would be cheaper, easier to drive and park in our underground parking, and most likely include more mileage. If we can get everything but the items listed above to the new place by car, that might be reasonable.
More on that later, a lot of it depends on when the apartment is ready. The manager approved our application, and Charles dropped off the deposit for him (he wasn't in the office, but he should have gotten it this morning). I've called and left him a message to find out what our next step is (signing a lease, I presume), and I'll post as soon as I hear from him.
Language retention in immigration
Immigration no threat to English use in U.S.: study (Reuters)
So they put statistics behind something we've all known for a long time- by the third generation (in my family's case, that being my children and nieces/nephews) you lose the language of the mother country. It's a sad thing really, but not unexpected.
Reuters - U.S. citizens concerned that Latino immigrants will have them singing "The Star-Spangled Banner" in Spanish can rest easy, according to an academic study published on Wednesday.

Hedgehogs finally safe from McDonald's
Food giant bows to hedgehog
Read full story for latest details.
I love it. Esspecially the fact that "significant research and design testing" went into figuring out how to keep the hedgehog's head from fitting into the container...

Website update
I've been playing with my website on my "free time" lately. Like right now (when I can't sleep because I took a nap earlier today and I don't want to toss and turn and keep my husband up when he needs his sleep before work tomorrow).
Updated some structure of the site, but it's mostly placeholders for future content. The page that's actually done right now is this:

If you've browsed my Yahoo pictures, there's nothing new visually. Just some narrative to go with our wedding pictures. =)

Thank you, the world will now come to a halt...
I would like to inform you that I have officially seen it all, and the world will now come to an end.
Today alone:
The Geek Squad computer on which my associate (or Geek, not sure which they'd prefer!) was looking up my service order for my laptop crashed. The irony was beyond words, I giggled at him- in my head.
My stomach got upset after eating Chinese food. Up until now, Chinese food (and in particular Panda Express) has been the only fast food I can eat safely. I attribute this to the assumption (not a fact as of yet) that Chinese people don't have a lot of cows... even the gravy they use is made of soy sauce and not milk. (I'm lactose intolerant, note.) So, since this new revelation, I am no longer able to safely eat anything. =P
And finally, in an astonishing turn of events, a local police officer actually signaled and waited for me to open up room for him before merging into my lane. Now I've seen it all!
New pictures are up
I've been uploading more pictures to my yahoo photos site, doing some re-organization of folders, making some things public that weren't before (or some that were a long time ago but were automagically made private when I switched to the new Y! photos beta). Go check it out. =)
Of particular interest are (in this order):
Picture sampler - Photos ranging from mid-70s to this year, including some never-before-seen-online pictures I scanned from mom's photo album
2002 Haunt - I haven't seen these pictures in a long time, but while figuring out what was on all my burned CDs I found the pictures I took while I worked at Knott's
2006 NAC/NAMS - I took some (if I must say so myself) really nice pictures of the Texas state capital, among other conferency things
2004/2005 Christmas - I think these were public before, but they've been private at least as long as I've been using the new photos site, now public again =)
As always, http://photos.yahoo.com/calliope320
